Copyright!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:53 pm

Many of my clients have asked me questions which have had a potential copyright implications.
My reply has been and will be: don’t do it.

I will do what my clients wants to do. I am under no obligation. Any images, fonts, songs, sounds, patterns, brushes, etc. that you want to use you have to make sure you have a right to use.

In almost all cases if you have to ask then you will not have the rights.

If I offer you the images etc. then, yes, they are free. If I mention the images with a price then you must pay that price.

Music is a special thing. Getting rights to play someone’s music can be very complicated or very easy with a fee. And the fee can be minimal or exorbitant.

27 Designs Initiative

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:53 pm

If you are a web designer/developer you might understand how hard it can be to come up with a design for your own site. First of all, no one wants to see where you work or what you actually do. Generic office pictures are not what you are all about. Most web design sites end up with either a lot of generic abstract pics or images of enthusiastic users. But how do you represent your business and what it does in a single website?

I have spent the last year and a half trying to come up with a site that would represent, concisely, what it is I can do for my clients. Sorry I can’t do that. If that is what you want then please see my portfolio. As I write I have gone through 27 different designs for my own site. Thus this is my proposal. I will present my site, as much as possible, giving the user a choice of as much as is possible. The 27 represents how many times I have started and rejected designs for myself.

Please look for this within the next few weeks. And look for a major site upgrade within the next week or so.

I now offer a challenge to other web designers/developers to provide this same sort of thing. As design and development professionals, giving our potential clients a clearer idea of what we can do within our own sites has to be a major consideration.

Thanks,

Rodney Byman

The first post

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:25 pm

This first post is going to be really short. Starting up one’s own business is a lot of work. Hopefully, once I get past all the startup stuff and once things settle down a little, I will have more time write in this blog. Until such time just let me say welcome to my blog. Oh and wish me luck. It couldn’t hurt.
